The Snaffle

The snaffle has a single mouthpiece and one rein, and apply pressure on the tongue, lips, and bars of the horse’s mouth. It is a less severe bit but can be a cruel weapon in the wrong hands.

When buying a snaffle, ensure that it is:

~the correct width,

~ fitted closely into the corners of the mouth without dragging them up uncomfortably, or increasing poll pressure,

~ without any scratches or blemishes that can harm the horse’s mouth.
